Leaking CSV Solenoid (actual solenoid)
« on: November 26, 2017, 02:07:05 »
Has anyone here seen a CSV solenoid actually leak gas through its 12v terminal screw hole? I take it that means some internal seals etc in the solenoid itself are toast?

There are a few posts I have seen over the years.  It seems to be limited to the earlier large flange valves that were used prior to 1970.  I have seen the solenoid for sale recently for something in the neighborhood of $350.

I had the same problem and it seems to be quite common.  Firstly, you must stop the leaking valve. Try lapping it with toothpaste with very light pressure. Grinding paste is too course.
I managed to find two small O rings from a local bearing shop. Measure the shaft and go half mm smaller, iirc 3mm. Slip them on the end of the solenoid shaft with a little rubber grease between the O rings and the solenoid body. When the solenoid is not powered and the shaft retracted the O rings should 'butt up' nicely to the solenoid.
In our climates, the solenoid should only be powered for a few seconds. I drove around for a few days with the solenoid unpowered in order to confirm the valve had stopped leaking.

I've never heard of this before.  I think I still have one for sale on ebay if you want to buy it.  Contact me via PM if you want it.

I had a fuel stop solenoid on the IP leak oil through terminal and it is the same basic design. The O-ring at the base of the CSV solenoid just stops the fuel from leaking at the flange when the CSV activates. If the solenoid leaks at the terminal, it has to be replaced.
