Hardtop restoration issue
« on: January 05, 2018, 03:08:34 »
Hi,

We are currently restoring the hardtop of our 1971 280 sl.

I would be looking to replace the metal part from the roof that sits directly on the body (the delimited part on the picture) since ours is really rusted.

Does anybody knows the name of this part or have any clue where I can find one ?

Thank you,

Kevin

It looks to me like you will be looking for a donor hard top or a skilled “tin knocker”. I have not seen that as a replacement part.

I just had my hardtop restored by "The Metal Man" Brian Nordby 30 S. Horton, Seattle WA 98134
206 234 9437     He cut and replaced in the area you show in your pic. My hardtop was bent because an acquaintance ran my car into the hardtop. Brian is well qualified to repair/replace.

I would also think any decent metal guy should be able to replace and re-weld the area shown. Very few replacement panels are offered for the tops .
