280SL Starter lockout/backup lamp switch wiring help.
« on: January 13, 2018, 21:51:25 »
Hi everyone.  Does anyone have a diagram or picture of the connector that goes on the backup lamp/starter lockout switch on the firewall?  The connector was damaged and I am trying to figure out which color wire goes where in the new connector.  I have the service manual which shows the connectors, but only for sedans, not the SL.  It's a 1968 but I don't think the wiring colors would have changed from 68 - 71, but then again, you never know.

Thanks for any help,

Chris

Hi,
there have been 2 different lockout switches: 4 and 6 connectors, but only 4 are used for cars without US exhaust regulation.
- black-yellow-red from fuse 5, 0.75 mm²
- purple-white to ignition switch, 2.5 mm²
- grey-yellow to backup/reversing light, 0.75 mm²
- purple to starter/clamp 50, 2.5 mm²
