Need Tire Help - 1970 280SL with Bundt Rims
« on: February 04, 2018, 16:28:22 »
First off, this is my 1st post and I am a new member (within past couple of months). This site has been extremely helpful and I have been busy reading and learning more about this vehicle.

Currently my dad and I are working on getting this vehicle up and running again after having it sit for 20 years. We have made a lot of progress but now seeking help on tires to get. I have read several articles on rims and tires but wanted to ask the forum directly.

The car has Mercedes Benz Bundt rims part #: 1084001002 and currently has "Michelin ER 78-14 X" tires on them. These tires are old and are in need of replacement. So looking for suggestions on size/brand that will be good for this vehicle.

Also, my dad is not the original owner so if anyone knows if these rims were available as an option for this vehicle when purchased new or if the had to be put on later, that would be appreciated. Again, trying to learn more about the history of the vehicle.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Read the following section... including all the subsections at the links. You'll know more about wheels and tires than most:
