rubber gaskets to dash guages
« on: February 09, 2018, 07:07:16 »
Hi All,
Do the rubber gaskets for the guages sit between the glass and chrome surrounding escutcheon or between the escutcheon and the painted metal dash panel. After painting the car, paint has made the guage openings a little smaller, but way too small for the gaskets to be housed around the guage and fit into the dash opening......sand back the circumference of the openings?
Thanks,
Mike H.

There is a thin gray rubber gasket that fits around the outside of the gauge behind the chrome ring. A parts diagram will show it. Try partsouq.com if you do not have a subscription to the MB EPC.

To add to doitwright's answer the gasket does get inserted into the dash a tiny bit as well as being sandwiched between the chrome bezel and dash.

I also recall that my gauges had one wrap of masking tape around the gauge just below the bezel.  Possibly to serve as a shim to achieve a tighter fit into the dash opening.
