Affordable fuel pump by "sl haus"
« on: February 16, 2018, 07:06:46 »
Hello everyone,
I purchased an affordable yet correct fuel pump by SL Haus to install temporarily while I rebuild the original.
Has anyone installed one of these? If so any advice? there are no specific instructions for mounting on the w113.
Thanks

It looks like Buds sells this part for 3x more than sl auto hauz.  Amazon sells for $100.

Check out this link.  There are pictures that might help.

Interesting, Bud's non-correct contraption is more expensive than what I paid for the proper, new Bosch pump in France.

Mauricio,
to answer you questions it would be helpful if you can post a photo of that pump or a link to the vendor showing the model and type.

Cees,
Did you buy your pump recently?  Last I saw they are up to around $1600 USD now.

Must not have been recently or something! Bosch's replacement for the older model for our cars is over $1,800, but you can find it for $1,600 or so at the usual places...

Yes this is a decent substitute. It is the Carter fuel pump I discovered and it is discussed on this forum. It is a centrifical  style as is the original. Specs are nearly identical to the original but it is a bit louder. As with the originals, make sure to mount the pump low enough to gravity feed it from the fuel tank. Originality is best, but this works just fine and the price is right. Can  be used as a "carry-along" spare, a temporary substitute or a non-original permanent solution.

Yes Pat (and Michael) - I bought it a couple of months ago. Was on an exchange basis but what I received looked brand new in a Bosch box.
I was a bit bummed because I had already replaced the pump once before. Then I remembered I have had the car for 18 years now, and the first pump I replaced when I just bought the car ...

I looked up the invoice for my new pump. I paid € 573 last June for an original Bosch pump, likely rebuilt as it was on an exchange basis. Ref number BOSCH F026TX3006. Here in France, at Meca-Trouve (mecatrouve.com). Sometimes parts are cheaper in Europe than in the US.

Today at Mecatrouve, that exact part is €1,480.  Huge price increase.

Thank you all for the helpful info. I realized I can use the original ring bracket from the early bosch pump with some added rubbertapearound the pump to secure adequate fit. I wish I would have found it on Amazon first but at least I did not buy it from Buds. ;D I will post a pic when I have it installed.

The prices on these original pumps are insane right now. A few years ago a brand new small style could be bought for a fraction of those prices. The large style ones even rebuilt are at criminal prices! I still have lots of parts hanging around to rebuild the larger ones. I'll probably hold onto them until I get some time to put together some usable ones--not now though! Too busy enjoying full retirement!

I purchased an original new fuel pump from Niemoller about 3 years ago for €820-
I see they're selling original exchange fuel pumps for about €890-
