I stand corrected; it was a 300SL, now that I think about it... how could I have mis-remembered THAT? Regardless, it's the only car I can think of that looked great with plaid on the interior!

While on subject of seats, a while back there was a Pagoda parked nearby at the movie theater. It was a white 280SL (I think) with red trim. What was interesting is the seats were two-toned. Red on the sides, with white where the basket-weaved? ribs are. Caught my attention. The car also had snaps all around the topcase and top of doors -- for a tonneau cover I presume.

Douglas ! Thanks for the thread...Big thanks to naj for the met red pic. my wife and I have been "debating" the color for our 64 230sl. Originally white, it's been light blue and currently a bad silver. I think red is the ultimate sport color..She wanted to go w/ a dark blue..statley not fast. showed her the pic naj posted and she loved it! now we don't disagree about anything.

Doug,

My '71 280sl appears to be copper also.  I've had it since 1991.  The previous owner painted it this color - the original color is Tobacco Brown (423).

I went to http://www.pagode.info/ (translated by google) to find out if copper was a factory color on the 280 sl.  Copper is color 463 - available on the 230 and 250 as a metal IC option, but it's not listed for the 280 sl.  461 is 'broncebraun' which I think means bronze, and it's available on all 3 models.

Is the car in the picture a 280 SL?  What's the factory color #?  Maybe it's broncebraun!

My vote would be for copper:

As for interiors, I would say aquamarine.

Related question: Has anyone ever seen a customized color from the factory on a Pagoda?

Bruce,

I think the copper car pictured is a 250 SL.

PK: There's a gorgeous example (that's sold) of 571/metallic red pictured at:

http://daveolimpiautomobiles.com/

It's a '71 280 SL listed under "Cars for Sale." Even years later, this car has stuck in my head as a particularly striking example of a Pagoda.

Doug,

I found a nice color chart at http://www.mbzponton.org/ponton3/colorcht/colorcht.htm

The picture (and my car) are definitely 463 -- copper.  The broncebraun color (461) is more brown than bronze.

Thanks for starting this thread -- It's nice to know that my car has some has some like-color siblings, rare as they are!

Here are a few more for the list.  One is gold and the other is called "smoke"  I'm really not sure what color the smoke car is or what it's name is.  Any help on this one?

The Dearborn car is DB728H beige-gray metallic.  I know this because it's my car. :D   I'm still not sure what color the "smoke" car is.

Very nice!  Some of the Mercedes colors don't sound that exciting by name, but they sure look good in person.  Do you have some photo's posted to this site, I'd love to see the interior and engine.

I wondered if anyone was gonig to post something. I noticed it this morning when I was checking things on e-bay. What is the word......
interesting? color set up. Perhaps a refuge from a crash test session??

I hate to admit, but I would like to see it live to get a proper take

Did a quick check of the color books last night. MB did have yellow, DB624, in the 72-80 period that could be a match. I have seen some of the 107 cars in this or similar color, and they were not too bad.

The yellow pagoda looks like it's a wanna be :P ... like it wants to be a Ferrari :) hehehe

I wouldn't buy or own a yellow pagoda but it was nice to have seen it even if it was a photograph.

Cheers

Jeez, these cars are so "in your face" with the glowing yellows/caramels.

Mike, did you ever get that one in a million 3.5 w111 coupe standard shift?

Hi Chad  I was really up in the air on that one, I have been looking for a 3.5 coupe, but I never considered a manual trans in one, did'nt know MB made them, it was the first one I came across in two years of looking. Also at the time of the auction I was working in South Korea, and had no hope of getting a look at it. In the end somebody else wanted it more $$ than I did, and I'm still looking for the right car.

I own a 250 sl and the original color is the 463 H copper and I am getting ready to paint it that color again, the picture I saw was a bit intense but the color inside the glove box is beautiful especially in the sun and looks nothing like that photo, so it should be interesting. it was purchased originally in Italy

i kind of like the one I have. Although it is technically grey, it has hints of olive when the sun gets involved :D especially these days when the sun is low and the light intense

I had a copper 230SL here once. The guy was from Toronto and went by  '' Iceburg '' on the site. ( that goes back a ways, maybe 10 years )
His trans blew up and I changed it for him. Never saw anything like it before or since. The bearings must have let go because the case was split from one end to the other! :o

I would say that gold isn't a common colour. I've seen two, and I've seen a lot of 113's over the years. I worked on Hauser's 280SL when Tom Hamilton owned it. Very odd colour but I liked it.
Only ever saw one that was graphite gray so mabe that's not so common either.

In 2006 when we had " The meeting of the clans '' there was a guy here with a Italian car that was a very odd colour of green. I think his name was Ian Thomas - he made a couple of albums back in the '70's. '' Painted Laidies '' comes to mind.

Guys,
I thought that only women get excited about colors of their car. Can't you leave it up to us and get busy with debating about mechanical things like for example the adequate size of the rod? ;D

When I bought my 280SL in 2004 it was painted copper - 463 H and it looked pretty good.
My car had been painted several times over the years but that wasn't the original color.
I had it stripped and repainted in the original color - sand beige metallic - 467 H.
It's a gold color and I have seen a couple of others in that color but only one in person.
I think both the copper and my color sand beige metallic are pretty rare.
