Steering Pump: What goes here?
« on: April 04, 2018, 09:13:11 »
After more than a year I’m putting my steering system back in after rebuilding the pump and steering box and replacing the crank seal. My memory sucks. Did a bolt go here?

That's a chain rail pin. It's threaded so you can remove it by pulling it back out. So, don't worry; nothing goes there.

Thank you!

Also, I was putting in the spacer that goes aft of the steering pump. It is a tight fit and is difficult to move the pump to tighten/loosen the pump drive belt. I’m wondering if this is normal or should I shave a few thousands  off on my lathe? (maybe it is not the original spacer)

That's the bushing you're talking about? It just slides into the space the back of the pump and the bracket. Not much room but it should fit.

The spacer fits but was a small challenge to get it in. It is tight enough length wise to make it hard to move the pump side to side to tighten/loosen the belt.  It will work but I would think it’s a little too tight and am wondering if other’s are the same.
I have to tap the pump with a hammer to loosen up the pump belt. The tensioning screw fully loose.

The pump doesn't sit loose and really won't move around without a bit of force so yours might be typical.
