Can anyone ID the Part Number for this Trim Piece?

Hello,

For the life of me, I can't seem to find the part number for this 2-piece set of chrome trim for the softcover hatch on my 65 230SL.  Anyone know what this piece is called, and especially the part number?  Bonus points for any supplier either OEM or aftermarket for a reasonable price?

Hello,

There are a couple of older different part numbers that are superceeded by the following part numbers. Left side molding is 1137501181 and right side is 1137501281.
These are chromed brass moldings, not cheap alu or stainless, good luck in finding reasonably priced parts. The parts are grouped with rear lid parts in the parts catalog.

Hi Hans!  Roy Dudley here.  Thanks so much for the part numbers...almost impossible for me to locate.  And, you were sure right about getting a pair at a reasonable price.  I did find a used pair from Bud's Benz in Atlanta, Ga., USA for $US400 EACH, and a remanufactured "new" pair from KMA Manufacturing in Michigan for $1000 EACH!!  Wow!!  I think now I will try to have mine refinished locally (re-chromed) which I suspect won't be much cheaper.  Such is the life of an old SL owner.  Once again, thanks for the post!

Dont forget the small half rounded piece in the middle with the hole in it for the soft top catch #113 758 01 41 Rosette
Left long piece #113 750 11 81 Garnish moulding left

No....
His escutcheon is still in place, so he doesn't need it. And it looks to me .... not sure .... if it is still the early type of escutcheon with the rounded edges instead of the arrow-peak edges (A113 758 0041)...; that one is anyway NLA.

But what you need, Roy, is the little clip that covers the gap between the both mouldings, the A113 758 0129,

But what is also obvious on your car, Roy...,
there is far too much upholstery padding material underneath the brown/cognac-colored MB-Tex (or leather) stripe/covering on your softtop compartment lid. On original (left) cars there is almost nothing, only very thin styrofoam.

This is what an unmolested untouched softtop lid cover ("softcover hatch") looks like. Even the alumin(i)um strip (A113 750 0035), that holds the leather in place, is visible there.
Needs reworking in your case ....

Hans, Walter and Achim! You guys are killin' me!  I'm always humbled by the response and friendship that comes across on this forum.  Now that I have the part numbers and some "adult supervision" on a proper installation and a bit of rework on the padding, I think I'm going to be okay! 

If any (or all!) of you guys ever make it to San Francisco give a shout...I'll take us all to lunch!

Both sides are available from Mercedes MSRP $1070.00 each and some dealers will provide a 30% discount so $749.00 each. Still lots of money but replating will be costly.

Well, I guess it's not an expense, but a lifestyle, right?  I don't know about you guys but with that kind of price tag I'd have to check with "the higher authority" here at home to see if I have that much in my "allowance jar"...if you get my drift.   I'll keep you posted.  Thanks everyone for help, info and advice.    All the Best.

 I know where there are two reasonable good pieces of these.. Not brand new but had been re-chromed about 5 years ago and kept wrapt up since then.  They have the slightest of pitting that polishes off. I think you would get them for about $800 for the pair.  The guys name is Reinhard Klavers. His number in Australia is +61 419 513 177   Just remember it is 10 hours difference.

The clip that is holding the two mouldings in the middle, A1137580129, from SLS just does not fit my mouldings, I do not know why.

I have just received a quote from Classic Center for it - I almost fell down from my chair - EUR 130... Some of these prices really went crazy.

The escutcheon, A 113 758 01 41, with the hole for the top's anchor bolt is "just" EUR 60. This is a piece of chromed solid moulded brass. The clip is just small chromed steel clip. I do not get it...

I am in awe that you are correct.  Totally forgot about that trim piece joining the two.
My car is under a cover and lots of boxes and a train set in the garage.
And it's been a while since I've been there.

Gary and gang ~ You're all the best.  Not sure if I'll reach out to the pair in Australia just yet before seeing about a local rechrome in the SF Bay Area ~ Could be tough since environmental laws make the chemical processes really restricted now so I'll probably be seeing some outrageous charges yet.   I had spontaneous hair combustion at some of the quotes already (albeit a very small fire at these later years...) but have a couple of leads to follow.   Thanks again to one of the best forums going!   All the Best, Roy Dudley.

Generally speaking, you can re-chrome parts for much less than you can buy new pieces. I would send them out to a place that can do them.  I know temperature gauges are sent to NM or AZ for rebuilding because of CA environmental laws. Check out of State if that's your problem. Chrome plated brass costs usually aren't too bad as it only needs nickle and then chrome plating.

I sat down and just started contacting Chrome shops in Arizona, Nevada and Ohio and found Ohio has the most shops, less stringent codes and great prices and online reviews and customer ratings.

I found a shop called:

They were responsive, have lots of experience with small jobs around custom cars and restorations.

$25. per foot (for linear trim pieces) base plus extra charges for sanding, polishing, minor repair etc., but still under $35./foot (approx) "all in" for any piece.  Looks like I can get the pair of 230SL pieces done for about $325. plus 2-way shipping ~ 4 weeks turnaround.

They're friendly, knowledgable and seemed to "get it" right off the bat.

So, you might stick this one in your rolodex for future use if needed.
