Lock differences single key cars - exterior door lock
« on: April 13, 2018, 23:14:16 »
Please look at the pictures.  I have some door handles that I _probably_ got from a Fintail.  They almost always have a slightly concave area where the key goes into the lock.  But then I have this other set that has a slightly convex area where the key goes into the lock.  Ideas?   Second question - Most of the locks I have have a striker that is sort of V-shaped.  But one set of locks I have has a striker that is sort of opposite ends kind of thing.  See pics on second post.  Any ideas about which is for which cars/years?

Hi Scoot,
My 1966 230 SL has a concave surface,
The interior activating mechanism is like the first one you posted, with flanges at 90 degrees apart.
FYI. they are spaced 180 degrees apart on the spindle, comparing left from right doors.

I sold them and don't care anymore.  The question was from April.

Ah...,
Scott....,
You want to know what these differences are about...? ;)

Ah, well...., I understand.....  :o 8)

Well,
first of all, there were two makes for these door handles (and locks), YMOS and HUF. Both of these names are imprinted on the inner side of the handle. On your last pic I can even see the HUF sign.

HUF is still alive, doing well and produce until today....; YMOS instead - at least the car-manufacturing leftabouts - was swallowed by one of these larger car-supply companies, I think this is VALEO. YMOS' leftabouts is a bit intransparent....

http://www.ymos-ag.de/

Well, as to your pictures,
the first both ("recessed key") are clearly YMOS door handles and as such also usable as parts donors for Pagodas. I can even see the YMOS round key (only original for glove box and trunk. ...)

The both next pictures ("rounded key") are clearly (early) Huf handles, typical sedan handles, not usable for the Pagodas.

The last one is also a HUF handle (I can read the sign there on the inner of the handle part... ) but the non-V-shaped striker (the one with the parallel tabs) is from/for a late fintail, made after July 1967, so most likely from/for a 230 (W110) or 230S (W111).
These late ones already had/got the later door locks from the "model year 1968" (as you Americans would say), the later door locks that also the late 250ies and 280 SLs had.

Hope it clarifies a bit.... ???

Best,
Achim

P.S. As to the non-existing YMOS brand anymore .... don't worry. If you buy new door handles or gas caps for the Pagoda, these might be a bit expensive but they still carry the old YMOS brand sign  ;) :D

Oh, so sorry, Scott.
I did not know that....
I just answered because Laurie's answer was new,
and that's why I added my comments. Haven't realized that you responded (me) in the meantime.
So, just forget about it.
Never mind.

Regards,
Achim
