123 Ignition

I have heard that If I was to switch to the 123 ignition, it would be beneficial.

Please comment on the benefits of installing one. Also please let me know which model I need to purchase.

I have been using the 123 ignition system for more than 6 years.  It works perfectly.  As far as I know there is only one model for our cars. 123 Mercedes 6-R-V. 

If you want precise performance and your distributor and ignition system has not been professionally rebuilt I recommend this system.  My car starts immediately after it sits in the garage for 9 months of the year.   All other systems in my car are tuned up also.

Can't go wrong with the 123. Even better than a brand-new original Bosch unit would be: more modern tech. Lots of information here, includinv in a Pagoda Notes. I thought they now alao have a bluetooth connectable unit now, kn addition to the regular one.

Yes they do make a bluetooth model. The advance curves are programmable using an app. The beauty is you can play with the advance curves on the fly to get the most out of the engine. If you change your fuel octane you can simply press one button on the app to select a different curve and advance setting.

These models also have an optional immobilizer feature where you can add a passcode to disable engine starting. The only drawback is if your phone dies while your out shopping or you are separated from it you will need to reset the distributer to factory specs. This requires tools and time.

Ghosts in the machine...

There are a number of people who have had some unresolved issues with the 123. There are a number of people that have had issues with any of the systems out there. I've had a Pertronix installed in my -050 rebuilt cast iron distributor since 2011 and it's been flawless. So was the Crane that preceded it, until it didn't. But, I know one member here who couldn't get his car to idle properly with his Pertronix. Go figure.

Any of these newer systems will probably work for you, but there's always a possibility that the OOB (out of box) experience may require a bit of tweaking to get it right.

I had the 123 ignition bluetooth version installed in my 230 SL last year.  Did so after being stranded on the side of the road due to failure of newly installed ignition points.  I didn't want to have that happen again so I decided to upgrade.  I have been pleased ever since.  My mechanic likes the programming capability of the bluetooth version.  I would surely make this decision again.
