Pagoda Meet

Gentlemen can’t wait to meet up again for our Pagoda meet n drive. It’s been way too long and I think my mission was to have my very own Pagoda by the next meet. It’s been almost two years. Now I’m lucky enough to have two options. 1969 280sl which I bought two years and finally ar the last stages of restoring back to original. And 1970 280sl which I acquired for my second daughter.

Paul love your 280sl. The two tone is beautiful. Is it a dark blue hardtop 904g color. Engine bay is immaculate. Never seen chromed exhaust manifold. It’s very impressive.
Gold Coast is normally a quick visit with the kids and no Pagoda but will let you know our next visit as I would love to catch up.

Having arranged about half a dozen of these in the past I sought help but alas no one stepped forward to arrange. Hence there have not been any more.


Feel free to arrange to select a place for coffee on a Saturday, maybe in mid September or mid  October.  I am away in Brisbane now till end of August then in later Sept off to the Euro gathering in France.

Its a 230SL  1964......I bought in West Hollywood believe it or not RHD !!!   I had the engine parts ceramicaly coated and doing the same on My E9 BMW currently in bits. (It does not tarnish like polished alloy and helps dissipate the heat)

I have 2 friends both with 230sl's in pieces soon to be finished (1 is a total rotisserie with a mercedes 3.5L V8 in it fitted like a dream..........should be interesting to see it drive) anyway we have an assortment of cars and always in Tedder Ave at Crema Expresso.

JC the hardtop and hub caps (280 hubcaps) are "Dark Brown " 460G   standard colour  sometimes called dark brown maroon.

Are the alloy parts polished, then protected by a clear ceramic coat ?
Or is that the colour and finish of the ceramic coat ?
It looks impressive.

the 1 piece hubcaps are stainless steel ( got them from a Benz wrecker came off a sedan of 280SL vintage)
anyway I had several to choose from took the ones with scratches and used a dremil  to polish the scratches out but found it left burnish marks on the stainless...............so I had them chromed. Look great with the dark brown painted centres.

The ceramic coating is as it comes from the coaters..............no clear........never have to polish............no maintenance.  After it is coated ( I believe) it is heated in an oven to 300 deg which causes the resins in the paint to harden. It's rock hard.

Post some close up pictures,  looks just like fresh cast aluminium.
Did you ceramic coat the exhaust manifolds too ?
I have the stainless hubcaps , wanted them chromed, he said he couldn't do stainless but highly polished them instead.
Still not as nice as chrome though, turns out you can as you say, its just a different method not all chromers can do...bummer.

close ups as requested.  Yes extractors were done including engine mounts which attach to side of block.
