FI pump scam?
« on: June 29, 2018, 17:10:32 »
As mentioned in a previous thread, I'm considering buying this pump to get my car running and then send my old pump off to be properly restored in Germany. But since it's a lot of money I'm checking this really carefully. The seller only has unrelated items listed on eBay (toys, coins etc.) which at first had my warning lights flashing, but upon asking about this, she claims to be the wife of the owner of Tower Bridge Diesels (http://towerbridgediesels.co.uk) who restores pumps. The website checks out - even has Colin Ferns listed as a reference (are you listening in on this Colin?). So what is your gut feeling about this?

If you buy the pump from eBay and it is what it says it is (reconditioned) why would you still have your original pump rebuilt?   Also, if pump is misrepresented (i.e., not reconditioned, not working) you can return it.   It's certainly not inexpensive.

I would have it reconditioned before selling it on to recoup some of the expense - the reason for buying the other one is simply impatience as I'm sick and tired of not having a fully functional Pagoda for almost two years :-)

I know Tower Bridge Diesels because they rebuilt my fuel injection pump. You could always get their number off the internet and ring them directly.

It all seems very legit e.g. their bank account has the company name on it, so I'm probably just a little too nervous. But will sleep a hell of a lot better once I have a track & trace no :-)

Ulf I am sure it will be alright.

The owner (Fred) has a very good reputation. According to testimonials he rebuilds pumps for John Haynes, a prestigious restorer of classic MB cars.

If you still need reassurance I'm happy to ring Fred and confirm it's his.

The pump arrived today, so no scam - but great relief :-)
