The picture is labeled as a 280SL part.  mgmoore wanted a 230SL part.  The 280SL and 230SL parts are different and will not interchange.

The only difference between the 230sl and 280sl combination switch is the kink in the stalk. Many people replace the stalk with the 280SL stalk because it is slightly longer as well as about half the price of the 230SL stalk. They are interchangeable.

Not according to the technical manual.

www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/SteeringColumnSwitch

Which says:  "The 230SL switch unit is different from the 280SL switch unit and the two are NOT interchangeable!"

Hi,

Just back from my vacation and noticed the feedback, great. Does palm Beach classics have any customers that can verify unit is interchangeable. Iv'e spoken with a couple of sl guys and they are of the opinion that the 230sl switch is different and the 250/280sl unit can't be used? Thanks,

Mathew.

Nope !
I fully support Paul's view to the things.

The both stalks do not interchange !
The 230ies (and early 250ies) do need the A001 545 5524 stalk and not the later A002 545 2924, which is only correct for the late 250ies and the 280ies.
They are different, the 280 unit is too angulated
and would interfere with the (230ies) steering wheel if used.
Both are attached (fixed) to the steering column jack at different positions,
that's why the stalk is different.
Don't use the 280 unit on a 230 ... unless you are crazy.

Palm Beach, I can understand your willingness to sell a (pricey) part,
but it doesn't make sense for mgmoore's car.
Go and get a correct one from Mercedes-Benz (Tom Hanson) instead.
Or a Chinese aftermarket part - should also work.
But not a 280 SL stalk.
