Here are some pics of my engine and parts and hardware for my 230sl. I took a lot of pictures prior to disassembly that have proved helpful but I will have to probably look at another car as a refresher when putting it all back together.

because the chromate is so fragile I have been giving all the larger plated parts a light coating of Nyalic which is a single part urethane(I think)clear coat used on the exterior of Airstream trailers.  Applied in a single light coat it is undetectable and I figure it could't hurt as it doesn't yellow with heat.

That sounds like a good idea. I've never heard of Nyalic. Where did you buy it?

Actually, the phrase is commonly found in almost all British vehicle shop manuals, which contain clearly written step-by step directions in exquisite detail, accompanied by pictures and illustrations, for disassembling most any component of the subject vehicle, followed by the ultimate engineering one liner:  "Assembly is the reverse of disassembly."

Did you measure and note every bolt that came out to make sure the correct ones went back in?  What a nightmare!!

I’m sure I’d end up with a few left or not enough.  Did the finisher return every piece?

Did you have to clean and derust the pieces or does the finisher do all that?
