Which way to remove pinion tube.
« on: July 29, 2018, 16:39:23 »
Which way to remove pinion tube from right axel, remove it by driving it forward or drive it towards the rear? Also I was able to remove the clamps from the rubber boot with out damage, Can I reuse it or will I destroy it when I pull the right axel housing?

I usually drive the tube rearward. Don't forget to remove the tapered pin, and loosen the three cinch bolts.

The tapered pin Joe mentioned is key.  Loosen the nut a couple turns and push it out with a hammer and punch. A bress drift would be ideal.  Be nice to it though as new ones are over $100.  Search “tapered pin” if you don’t know where it is.  I recall some recent pictures here.
