Yamabond is for sure a good product and have used that several times. But the biggest drawback here is that when the metal pieces go back together, the gap is minimal. Meaning that it will squeeze out 95% of the product you put on the surface. So that excess product is going to go somewhere and maybe some on the inside which may not be good.
You might consider Permatex #2 which a non-hardening, gooey sealant meant for this type of application. Unlike Yamabond, you can apply a VERY thin layer of #2 and it won't squeeze out as bad. #2 has been around longer than roaches.
