Anyone have a Sedan era a/c bracket ......that moves the compressor to the top of the engine, and the tall thermostat housing for sale?

A Sedan bracket doesn't look like it will work on an early 230SL. Fabricating my own bracket. I still need a tall Sedan thermostat housing, I will post a picture when finished.

Cut the mounting ears off the Sanden adapter and weld them directly to the sedan bracket, to gain a little more clearance.

The problem is that I can not sneak the sedan bracket rear bolt hole on to the stud of the intake/manifold. The plan is to drill and tap the boss of the intake manifold to anchor the bracket on the rear, With 3 anchor points.....one on the rear as described and two on the front should be sufficient.  Yes it's a 127 engine original to the 230sl.....possibly it's the tubular headers that are causing the problem. The engine is  mocked up to fit the a/c bracket.

I've seen far too many crank failures on 127 engines to ever believe that AC is a good idea on a 230SL. Proceed at your own risk.

That is a concern on the W127 engines. However the Sanden will cause less strain than the old compressors. Consider the upgrade crank bolt and cup washers as described in the BBB.

You can do that but that's not where the weak area is. The end of the crank will snap off right behind the balance hub. Your mileage may vary or not at all once it breaks.

Curious if you have ever seen a crank break with a Sanden compressor?  The York 2 cylinder compressors were pretty brutal in terms of torsional vibration.  They were also so bulletptroof I could also see a car with a bad bad expansion valve or one that was overcharged eat some liquid freon (slugging) snd stop the pulley rather than break the compressor.

Still trying to buy a tall sedan era thermostat housing to fit my 127 engine, hopefully in the states. Or if someone has one, could you give me the part number cast into the housing?

I believe the MB number for the housing should be:

001 A 13 020 001 15

and just the upper part is listed at #  A 12 920 304 74
