Unknown port in engine compartment.

Unsure of the use of this port found in the engine compartment. Would appreciate any clarification. Getting a little closer to completing the restoration.

This is the trouble light port/socket.

On the picture you have the plug - the standard is still in use today, rarely, but it is.

The lid of this +12V outlet was metal and semi-gloss black from factory.
The plug socket outlet is available new from Mercedes, see attached. The lid is nowadays made from plastic material

I tried to order it now. The number changed into another one. I will see what I get and show you.

If anyone wants to plug in a battery tender the plug end is available as they still use them on BMW motorcycles.
