2.5 engine rebuild using 2.8 engine internals

Have to rebuild a 250 SE engine & have a 280 spare engine.

Does anyone know if the engine parts (camshaft, pistons, piston rings, rockers, crankshaft, timing chain, distributor, etc) from a 280 will fit onto the 250 engine?

I’m not assuming all parts will/won’t fit, but curious which ones will.

...yes, I’m aware that the part numbers are different

Some stuff will fit but the cylinder heads and blocks are different and it also depends on whether it's an early or late 280 engine.

Things that should be the same would be:
timing chain
gears
early 250 cam shaft ( not the same but could work )
rockers
ball studs
valves
crank may be the same
oil pump
flywheel
051 ignition distributor
power steering pump
starter
exhaust manifolds
fuel injectors
early style cold start valve
injection lines
some pipes and hoses
valve cover

Not the same parts:
pistons
connecting rods
head
block
injection pump
oil filter housing
radiator

Other small parts that are only used on 280 engines.

In fact there are some different internal parts of the 280 engines (early and late) which are not interchangeable with themselves. Blocks, heads, crankshaft connecting rods.

I know the camshafts and bearings are different from an early or late 280 but I didn't think the cranks are different. Is that what you meant or am I about to learn something?  :)

Now you have me doubting my own memory on the crankshaft Dan.  However the dealer parts book shows these numbers for the crankshafts, #114 030 01 01 replaced by 114 030 09 01, replaced by 114 030 11 01. I think that the later crankshaft may be drilled different for oil passage ways for the later bearings configuration?  I will need to do some forensic research out back to make sure.

Isn't that the 250 has less crankshaft main bearings?

It's the 230.
4 instead of 7 main bearings on the 250/280.

Many iterations of changes for the M130 crankshaft. However, the on-line EPC now show the Number A1300302001. This is also valid and shows up as "available" in the on-line M_B Classic parts search.
