Grease nipples W113
« on: May 11, 2019, 05:47:45 »
Hello,

Can someone provide a list of what grease nipples there are on a w113 280SL? I think it is a total of 13 of them but what kind are there?

E.g. M6 1.0 or M8 1.25 - 0, 45 or 90 degrees etc.

Would much appreciate a reply, planning to order Febi Bilstein.

Best regards,

Tommy

Thank you Kutte,

Do you happen to know how many of each

M6x1,0-0°
M6x1,0-45°
M8x1,0-0°
M8x1,0-45°
M10x1,0-0°
M10x1,0-45°

that is needed?

Any tips on from which supplier in Germany one could buy Febi Bilstein nipples from?

Best regards,

Tommy

Hi,
see here: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=17463.0 and http://www.pagodenteile.de/info/30.htm.
- 20 for 230/250SL
- 18 for 250/280SL from 06/67
- 17 for 280SL late

The below information is what I found from the thread that you linked to. (230 SL)

9 x N071412 008100 Kegelschmiernippel (grease nipple) = DIN 71412-A M8 straight
7 x N071412 008200 Kegelschmiernippel = DIN 71412-B M8 angulate 45°

2 x N071412 006100 Kegelschmiernippel = DIN 71412-A M6 straight
(thereof 1+1 for 230-early and only 1 + 0 for 230-late to 280SL)
1 x N071412 006200 Kegelschmiernippel = DIN 71412-B M6 angulate 45°

Can someone confirm that the above information is correct for 280SL?

So there is no M10?

Best regards,

Tommy

It is great to have the specifics of the part but I wanted to look at where they are all located a bit difficult to tell from the pagodentreffe diagram (kind of blurry, and I am not able to read the German).

Early cars through 250 SL (not sure where the cut off is for this count)

Three grease nipples on each steering knuckle/king pin (from the 250 SL manual) at the front tires = 6 items (#8 on the diagram in the manual)
Two on the lower wishbone and two on the upper on each side = 8 items (#6,7,9 on the diagram in  the manual)
One on the intermediate steering lever = 1 (#10 on the diagram in the manual)
One on the front driveshaft joint = 1 (#12 on the diagram in the manual) Is this only for a manual car?
Two on the middle drive shaft = 2 (I think #13 on the diagram referenced to pagodentreffe)
Two on the rear differential = 2 (#13 on the diagram in the manual for my 250 SL - manual date - 6/67, #14 in the diagram reference in pagodentreffe)
Total = 20

Later cars lose the two on the middle drive shaft? after 6/67
To get to 18

My 280 SL (Sept 1969 build) has none on the steering gear lever and none and none on the front of the drive shaft = 16
It is an automatic, would the manual cars have the extra grease fitting on the front of the drive shaft?

Yes/no???

Hi Jon,  I think you should find one on the front drive shaft to lube the centering cross flange. Opposite the grease nipple is a small weep hole to expel excess grease.

As far as I know, every 113 has a grease fitting on the front end of the driveshaft.
