123 ignition fitting - HELP!
« on: June 10, 2019, 15:44:58 »
So, got the new 123 system, new leads, new coil, new plugs. removed the ballast resister and fitted it all.

Starts perfectly, runs perfectly for a short while then just stops.  Leave it for a while, then starts perfectly again and runs for a short while then stops dead again.

Rang the supplier, they said that it doesn't have any thermal cutout, and if it runs, its working.  He thinks its the cars Ignition switch???

Anyone had a similar situation when fitting a 123 system?

Try connecting a solid 12v to the 123

In stead of your ignition 12V
Dont forget to use an in line fuse.

Kind of odd that it worked before you changed everything, worked for a while after you changed everything, but quits working after you changed everything. Since you changed a number of things it could be any one or more of them but that seems unlikely.

Your supplier is correct in stating that if your engine starts then it must be working. Check to see if you still have a spark after your engine dies. If you do, then it's pointing to something else like fuel. If fuel checks out and it quits working, try installing your old worthless distributor in place of it.  ;) If it starts, runs, and never stops, I'd say you found your problem.

Of course, it could be something completely unrelated.  :)

How long does it run? Have you checked if your immobilizer is not on? Perhaps go to settings an d check it. Factory PIN is 0000.

Immobilizer is erratic sometimes on Android.

OK, so what we did was start again from scratch. Checked/cleaned every electrical connection on the ignition system on the car -  (seems it need perfect low resistance across every terminal) and started again.

Seems to be running perfectly now.   Only one point was that when taking out the old distributor and comparing the TDC setting on the new to the old distributor there is a significant difference on the position of the slotted ends of each distributor.    Could have been that was the error?

Anyway, all seems good now.  Thanks for the suggestions etc.
