230SL with 82 liter tank

If I want to mount a 82 liter tank in my 230SL from 1965 (with flat spare tyre). I read somewhere that it will fit, but some changes have to be made to the fuel pump position. Can anyone explain which changes are necessary for this larger tank?

But how this is done?
A new bracket for the pump?
Do I need different hoses for this new location, or does every original part fits anyway?

Have a look at the two pictures. This pics tell you more than a 1000 words.
The pump (or at least the pump housing, the cannister) needs to be relocated a bit in order to make space for the larger trunk.

The brackets/mounting points for the fuel tank shoud be compatible, I think.

AFAIK the hoses will also still fit - but no guarantee here.

Yes so far it's clear that's there are differences between the two pictures.
May be there is someone here with the experience to explain the exact changes I have to made.

Doesn't look to hard to move the pump.

Look how the bracket is  held on to the body and see if it just can be simply moved over, which looks to be about half a foot.

This is achieved by means of the upper mounting bracket. These differ between 230SL and 250/280SL cars.
Attached are images of the 230SL type bracket and the 250/280SL type, which is offset. Some 40mm or so.
The pump covers are quite different as well, not easily interchangeable

I've just fitted a pump to a 230 which had the larger tank already fitted,  albeit a later short pump, i had to move the mounting points slightly further outboard as the bracket wouldn't line up with the factory mounting points.
I can take some pictures tomorrow if it helps,.

I think a fist step would be to acquire the round style pump cover and it will guide you to where the mounting holes are needed.  I've converted a short pump mount to the long style which will fit into the round cover as well.  I believe Barron Youngman rebuilds short pumps but the long pump is more available.

I did that conversion on my 230SL about 20 years ago and it really was not hard to do. Aside from moving the pump over it was pretty straight forward. It gave me a lot more range with a fill up and my car can easily go 750 KM before I would need to stop for fuel. I left the fuel pump canister off on my car.
