About that data card.
« on: August 06, 2019, 23:06:15 »
I am looking for a long hood 911 as my next car.  I think I found the one I want and was going to research the engine. Porsche used to sell a "Certificate Of Authenticity" (COA in Porsche speak) which listed the engine and gearbox serial numbers.  Well, it turns out people were obtaining a COA and then restamping their engine cases to match the COA.  Porsche stopped issuing them and instead had you send in your engine and trans # then they would verify it.  Now they have stopped doing that and require a 63 point inspection at the dealership in order to verify correctness.  If you think $150 for a data card is expensive imagine the cost of that.  I would guess that Mercedes will soon follow suit as they seem to keep track of what Porsche is doing and follow along in time.

Well, think that a few years back you paid $100.- and got a certificate with the Daimler logo and a rundown of all the options, codes and important numbers was a deal.
Now you pay $150.- for a .jpg poor photocopy attachment via email, with no explanation of the codes.  No hardcopy given (I asked for one).
Think that's a bit extreme.

For Porsche the COA is notoriously unreliable. Recommend you spend a few dollars to get a copy of the Kardex for your car from   "david_j.pateman david_j.pateman" <david_j.pateman@sympatico.ca>

ejboyd5,
I've heard of the "kardex" before, but have never seen one.
Any chance you could post a picture of one?
Of course, if there is any sensitive info there (key # for instance), I don't expect to see it there.

How about a little effort on your part. Do a search for Porsche kardex and you'll find many examples.
