I need to get one of those steam cleaners.

They should just do a mechanical restoration.  Sure, change the carpets and HVAC controls, but the body looks great!  Keep the paint!  Seats too!

I hope the motor turns over.  Something about the metallurgy in the pistons tends to make them grow into the cylinder walls over time.  Mine were so stuck after 23 years of sitting I had to break the pistons to get them out.

That's a great story. Am I right in thinking it's a good thing the windows were rolled up tight for all those years, or the animals and mould would have been even worse?
But I wonder what the dad is doing, still working at 83? (He's the same age as Dieter!) He should have restored this 20 years ago, retired, and driven it to all the PUB events.

A big part of the reason why I'm here is that my wife's family drove Mercedes sedans from around 1959 to 1974. My father-in-law's 190D was in their garage, immobile, until 2010. So that's a similar 36 years. I have a ton of photos from the day we tried to clean it up and wheel it out of the garage. But it was in far worse shape than this 280SL! And it looks like this AMMO guy really knows what he is doing.

I hope we get to see this 280SL again.

A great video. I would echo the comments about mechanical restoration, the body did look pretty good, but hard to tell from video. Indeed hope we can see some shots of the "done" Pagoda.
