Certificate from Mercedes Classic Center
« on: February 22, 2005, 11:23:15 »
I wanted to order the certificate offered by DaimlerChrysler Corporate Archives, for the data card really.  I contacted them via the below email and fax, which is listed on their website.

Daimler Chrysler AG
Corporate Archives
G 328
70546 Stuttgart
Fax: +49 (0) 711 – 1 75 21 77
E-mail: konzernarchiv@daimlerchrysler.com

First email went. No answer. Two weeks later, a follow up email.  Another week after that, a fax (all the time with proof of ownership). Still have not heard from them.

Anyone have similar experience?  Is this normal or have they closed shop???

Ran out of ideas on how to beg them....and willing to fork out the 100 euros they want for it....

Erick,
the adress, fax and e-mail of the MB archivs are perfectly right and they are still in business!
I have asked for the certificate last year. I wrote a request whith proof of ownership, simply put 100 euros in the envelope and posted all that to Stuttgart. I waited pehaps 2 monthes before I received the certificate, but it is nice.
If you are a little bit "gambler", try this method!

Erick.
The Germans take time to process stuff. They are very carefull and I am sure someone is working on you classic car certific doing research on your car. I would give them a couple of weeks I now it took me a while to receive mine but it did come through.
Erick:
I faxed them my DMV registration as proof of ownership. Gave them the serial number of my car and did a transfer of $100.00 and that s all that is needed.

I requested mine in December, and received a copy of the datacard 4-5 weeks later. A folder describing the 100€ option was in the same envelope together with a nice letter. The datacard was free of charge

Eryck,
How does one e-mail proof of ownership?  They will want a physical Xerox (photo copy) of your current registration.  If you sent a fax of your current registration, that should have been acceptable.  You could call to confirm your fax was received, they probably speak English well enough.

Thanks, Rodd.  Will call them to confirm.  I scanned my vehicle registration paper and emailed it to them previously but also faxed it, so I'll give them a call.

I am also interested in your outcome, cause I would like to pursue the data card also!
BTW, the VIN plate (located on the firwall in the engine bay) of this 230SL I have is quite ugly and aged.  Perhaps this is a stupid question, but are these obtainable from MB or some other source? Blanks to restamp or order one stamped? The plate on there is hideous looking and would lke to spruce things up a bit.

Chad, my plate is also unsightly. I am not sure I want to switch as this may well lead to questions if ever I decide to sell.
I may look to clean up with a cleaner such as meths, but really concerned about taking off the back paint.
Any ideas on the best way of refurbishing these plates?

Eryck,

I don't want to be alarmist here, but perhaps it is your location--in Hong Kong that is the issue...maybe they think something underhanded is at work here?  Someone with forged documents trying to obtain some kind of proof?  Just a thought.

I contacted them a few years ago and they were quite prompt in a reply and I didn't even offer them proof.

I have an original data card that came with the car, but when I went to order keys from my dealer, he gave me what looked like a faxed copy of the same card.  He said that with the VIN, he could get the card over his computer.
