Problem Removing Distributor
« on: October 19, 2019, 17:51:50 »
I am restoring my first Pagoda and have run into an issue on my first project.  I am replacing the distributor with an electronic ignition from 123.  I set the rotor to TDC for the #1 cylinder and am now trying to remove the old distributor.  I could only find one bolt on a ring type fastener just above the housing which I removed.  I am not sure if I have missed something or the distributor is frozen, but I can’t get it to move at all.  Any help would be appreciated!

Did you check the online technical manual here?

1967 250SL.  Yes, checked the technical manual but nothing specific.  Looks like it should be easy, but having a real problem with it.

Yes just the one bolt. Apply penetrant at the base and then try rotating it back and fourth. If that does not work, warm the aluminum mounting with a propane torch or hair drier.

Thanks for the advice, worked perfectly.  Was a bit nervous heating up the housing, but went at it a bit at a time and the distributor is out!!

The ‘O’ ring in the image above is often the cause of the Dizzy sticking.
