As per wiring diagram for the USA 280SL with emissions control (from Technical Manual's Electrical section), the thermo temperature switch (shown as number 31 in the schematic, provides ground to the cold start valve solenoid (shown as number 21) which in turn powers the cold start valve (shown as number 32). So far so good.
Another thermo-switch called the 17 deg C shown as number 35 on the same electrical schematic controls the operation of the emissions control vacuum switch via the relay box (33) and speed control relay (50).
I was under the impression that these two devices were the one and same device. If they are 2 distinct devices where then is the 17 deg thermo-switch located? Above spark plug 6 is the thermo time switch with its two terminals G and W.
If on the other hand they are the one and same device then terminal W of the thermo-time switch should go not only to the cold start valve relay (21) but also to terminal 6 of the relay box (33 in the schematic).
Any advice please?
