1972 fuel pump short model
« on: October 31, 2019, 00:41:30 »
I am about to rebuild a short pump.I have all the parts even the brushes. My question is the connection between the electric post to the brush post. The wire is coiled almost like a spring.Well one of mine is broken and unusable.I can get wire and wrap it like the good one but inside of the good one is a piece of something.I don't even know what it is.I think they are supposed to act as a resistor Does anybody know if these are neede or can I just use a piece of wire?

Not a part that breaks a lot so I've never really delved into it but I believe that that is a carbon rod that the copper wire is wrapped around and it acts as a resistor so I do believe it is necessary but past that, I'm sorry I don't have any other answers and that is just a guess on my part.

I talked to someone at vintage euro parts. The person who actually rebuilds their pumps. He told me it is a resistor that helps run the pump cooler. He has a source that he gets them from he is supposed to call me back.

OK he called me back they are called RF chokes and are used to reduce noise for your AM radio. You can use a piece of 24 gauge wire unatead but might have a noisy AM radio.
