Interesting History, but the fact is the 3.5 Euro engine had more horse power anyway since it had higher compression and optimal ignition timing over the USA Version 4.5

Wonder why they did that. The engine was actually a 4.5, just the trunk emblem said 3.5. Looks like they were behind in getting the 4.5
And as the customer always could delete the emblem, why not leave it off?

It looks like the factory just wanted to avoid a "mine is bigger than yours" discussion with potentially obsessed European customers.
I would also guess that remounting the designation would be easier than creating a one-off delete option that would require more work to add the designation by the dealer at a later date.
