Oil pump options
« on: January 03, 2020, 01:07:44 »
We are just about done assembling the engine on my 280 but would like to finish up with a new pump if possible. I know the w113 oil pumps have not been available for a while and the most recent posts offered the w110 280 oil pumps as an alternative. Well that was two years ago and the w110 oil pumps are no longer available as well.  Any body have another alternative or a possible source?  The only thing I can find on the internet is a used pump in Europe.

Does anyone know what would be the correct part number for the replacement M110 oil pump?

I searched on that part number with no luck as well. The MB dealer also said it was no longer available.

Is there a way to test used ones to see if they are still within specs? Would parts to rebuild used ones be available maybe?

Did you see this one?  Found it by just googling part number.

Yes I did thank you. It’s a used one. There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with mine other than putting a used pump back in a rebuilt engine. My oil pressure was fine so it looks like I will just put mine back in.

Oil pumps create volume and tight bearings will hold pressure. Most oil pumps will last 150,000 miles and maybe more providing no shards are run through them. If I'm working on an engine that blew up I always replace the oil pump, and until now, I did anyway.  ::)

So the classic center has two original oil
Pumps for $604 each. Certainly a lot unless they go the way of the fuel pumps in the future. I have a hold on one while I check mine for wear tonight. If mine is ok they will have both available.

Guys , usually a low pressure at idle is caused mostly by worn out bearings while the pump could be still ok. Am I right ?
Is incredible that a regular oil pump for a newer mercedes can cost about 100€ and our pump is about 1600€ or even more . What could be the solution if your pump it totally worn out or missing ? Thank you

I suppose, based on the comments in this thread, a good used one (checked for tolerances) should be fine. There should be plenty of used pumps around - I know I should have about 12 or so of them here in France, I just need to get around to taking them apart to check the tolerances against original spec / allowable tolerances (I think the tabellenbuch has those).

I just realized that the sl shop in uk has on stock this pump as a reproduction. The price is high but much less than the original one .
I don’t know about the quality or the brand . Is strange why such important parts are not available anymore . There should be some pumps that can be restored , like the fuel pumps nla new for sale but available as a reconstructed items .

Even if your pump is out of tolerance don't toss it.  The housing can be milled slightly and the end clearance can be corrected.

Is insane that a normal oil pump costs 1400€. For this price I can buy 2 sets of pistons and save it for the next engine rebuild in 50 years . I guess that even a tired oil pump with new  man bearings can hold good pressure  and leave you with no problems . Am I right ?

The oil pumps for W113 cars are all the same ? There is no difference between an oil pump of 230-250-280? All interchangeable?
