I am rebuilding the charging system on the new BaT 1965 230SL. The forward bolt on the bracket to the engine block was broken off at the base. Some innovative welder found a way to get his wire welder all the way in there to weld the broken off stud to the bracket. This lasts maybe a week. Pretty frightening.
I got the broken of stud out and put a grade 10 hardened all thread into the block, in both original locations.
Looking closely on this image I fabricated a new -third- mounting point on to the forward face of the engine block. There was an unused threaded female boss already in the block. We made two small brackets in the same gage as the bracket and welded it into place. The allen headed bolt was small enough in OD to clear the harmonic balancer.
With three mounting locations and with the new one being in a separate axis, I am hopeful it will last more than a week.
Possible someone else has come across this issue? I'd like to add this one to the list of non-factory approved solutions.
