1 3/4” AC Drain Hose Skirted Grommet
« on: February 12, 2020, 20:05:00 »
I have searched the Internet, but cannot find any source for a replacement of the original 1 3/4” AC Drain Hose Grommet that goes through the passenger side floor in the front right corner.

Has anyone found a source for these?

Best,
Roland

Hi,
I assume you are looking for this grommet, see att. picture.
I couldn't find any part number or other details, sorry.
I would look for a "universal" grommet in a hardware store. What's the size of the hole and hose?

None of the components used in the dealer installed AC systems have Mercedes part numbers. The units were manufactured in Texas.

I see several sections of drawings and parts lists for Jork and for Frigiking with Mercedes part numbers in the EPC... Maybe these are different types than those from the US.

I could not find the grommet you asked for though... Found the hose that goes through it, but not the grommet itself.

The hole is 1 3/4”. There isn’t a dimension given in our manual for the hose. I’d like to find that out too if someone has that info.

I used a  1/2'' hose

Was that a 1/2” ID or OD?

If it is 1/2” OD, then the hole they made at 1 3/4” in the floor seems pretty excessive.

OD but with a thin wall. I used a small  universal grommet to keep as close as I could to position the hose out of the way as far as possibly.

Keep in mind that MB has never made their own AC units. They used York, GM, Nippendenso, and maybe others so they made their builds adapt to the AC pump.

Hi Dr Benz,

We are only discussing the evaporator drain hose (Frigiking) grommet in this discussion. I’m trying to find out where I might be able to get a replacement for the 1 3/4” “Skirted Grommet” that goes through the floor in the front right corner of the passenger foot well. It is where the drain hose for the output of condensation from the Frigiking evaporator goes to the street.
I’d also like to know the correct size for the drain hose, ID and OD.

Best,
Roland

I know that. Most of the early cars used York compressors and were dealer installed. Most of those installs were done in NA so I would be looking for something from other NA cars built during the same time period.

For what it is worth, just to make this thread complete, this is the MB part number for this drain hose and SA codes:

A 113 835 06 97 | HOSE

55706   FRIGIKING AIR CONDITIONER
55706/08   U.S.AND CANADIAN VERSION

It is NLA, but if you try, they may offer replacement.

Solution is simple.

Measure evaporator core drain hose attachment.

Select appropriate size hose.

Measure hose OD

Find appropriate grommet

Drill appropriate hole in floor.

I have been unable to find a “Skirted” Grommet. There are plenty of 1 3/4” grommets, but I can’t find any “Skirted” 1 3/4” grommets.

Hi,
Sorry but I don't know what a "skirted" grommet is, maybe like this: https://www.oldtimerbedarf.de/gummi_5 ?

No, it has a long extension below the opening at the top, like a “skirt”. So, it sits in the hole and looks like a normal grommet from the outside, but it is like a tunnel continuing the opening hole down for a specified length.

In the case of the drain hose, it protects the drain hose from chafing against the chassis metal as it passes through the Skirted grommet on the way to below the chassis for discharge of the condensation water.

A similar “skirted” drain grommet is used in the soft top compartment. Not sure on the size though.

Wow! That one has a really long skirt!

The one for the drain hose is much shorter.

Do you have any source info for that one?

Yes its long. It passes through the inner fender well on its way to the rocker panel. It is part number 1137790078. The photo below is from elsewhere on this site. My hardtop is installed so I cant get a diameter measurement.
The usual vendors have listings. Google the part number for options.
Here is one listing.

Hi,
Ok, I understand a "sleeved" grommet but it will be hard to find it with 1 3/4" size.
I don't understand why it must have a skirt/sleeve because the drain hose is a skirt/sleeve itself. The hose needs only a protection for the metal hole means a simple grommet.

I am just trying to replicate what was there originally. The Skirted grommet neatly dresses the edge of the carpet where it is cut for the hole to pass the drain hose.

According to the install manual in our own technical manual the hole should be 1-3/8” not 1-3/4”. (I am in the process of drilling mine right now)  If the hole is 1-3/8” this is the grommet for it.  MB# 113 997 00 81
