Oil dipstick sticker

Any insights on replacing the sticker on my 68 250sl dipstick? Or try to preserve its remains?

Bob Geco offered this and I bought it from him. But he has since past away. His wife may still be selling these, not sure. Anyone have her contact info?

It is part of some of the decal sets. Need to search a bit, you will find it. I will dig too in a spare moment.

Ok, so you have the source in the US, good.
But: I would still look at preserving the old one, maybe it can be cleaned a bit...

Coincidentally, I tried to buy this sticker last week from Bud’s and was told that they are out of stock with no known resupply date.

In a discussion sometime in February that I cannot find now, but I think was part of a discussion on the decal that goes on the valve cover, a member posted a link to a German website that seems to have the automatic transmission dipstick decal as part of a package for €40, but the site was in German and I don’t speak German. Registration was required to order the decals, and that is where is got stuck.

Thank you. Looks like I will ask my engine detailer to do the best he can to preserve what’s left of the original.

I remember Bud's bought it from Bob Geco and yes, they do not have it. Look on post #18 of this thread from 2017 and is from Bob's wife.  https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=23927.0

She gives an email and says as of 2017 she is selling the decals. I have no idea if that information is still current.

Here you are chaps. As you can't seem to find it anywhere else, I recreated one as per the original image above.
If someone tells me the the actual size i can adjust it. below is just a jpg file. when i know the correct size i can
up load a high resolution PDF for printing. enjoy.

all the best DM.

Interesting. This is the one I bought from Bob many years ago. Basically the same but has a third line. BTW, the OD of the red outer ring is 1-3/8". It does fit on the trans dipstick cap just fine.

Attached is the sticker sized to Wallace’s dimensions. Created as per Calicoup’s photo of an original sticker
In place. He was the one that wanted a replacement, so it’s a reproduction of what he has.

I have no idea why other copies have 3 lines of text. I would always reproduce from an original rather than copy a copy.
Print the PDF on sticker paper, cut out, Job done.

In Bob Geco's catalog he describes it as an "Early Transmission Oil Dipstick" sticker.  No mention of a "Late Style".

BTW,  this particular catalog was from 2010.  A very early version which appears to be incomplete.

Late style may be referencing the change in the cap itself. The later ones, as on my 280 SL is a black rubber/plastic. Unable to provide a photo this week, but I am sure someone out there will post a shot.

Here is one of the later caps. Black plastic or rubber, not sure. As much as I don't like plastic parts, this was a good idea because the metal trans cap gets very hot as you drive and is when you are supposed to check the level.

Enclosing a picture of 1970 cap. It is plastic with the 3 rows of wording embossed. I have read somewhere that the late caps had no stickers (and it makes sense given how the letters are embossed).

I think we are talking 2 types/generations of stickers here. Then no stickers since certain point.

It’s interesting in that all reproduction stickers that I’ve come across have three lines.
Has anyone else seen a two line version such as my original?

Calicoup, I have just made you one exactly the same as your original.  Download it, print is on sticker paper and you are done. The wrong sticker, of questionable quality is
advertised online for $22 + Shipping.  Now you have it for free.

I don't know why i bother sometimes...
