You know anything about buses?

Brazillians:  high hinge cargo doors, no recess in door handles, no deluxe clock.  This one has VIN stamp in engine compartment is GERMAN, plus the VW Museum certficate says GERMAN.

OK you convinced me, you are right.
It really seemed Brazilian because of the color, narrow rear tailgate and I didn't see the hinges of the cargo doors.
The most 1963 bus already have a wider tailgate, but I read it was from August 1963.
Yes I know anything about Split Window buses, we call this Type 2 T1 and this is my self-restored one:  ;D

FYI, anotoher way to distinguish a brazillian is the cargo door inner handle mechanism.

Welcome to the VW club.  Hope you have deep pockets and patience to keep it running.  Just as a correction, the term Barn door did not refer to the side doors but was the rear engine bay door.  The very early ones had a very large door to access engine, the later ones in the pictures are not the nicknamed “barn door” models.

I do not have a VW Bus, but there is one that is my all-time favorite!! I think I posted a picture of this before here. My wife (in the picture0 is 5' tall!!

I still miss my 1971 Westfalia Pop-top Camper. We dove it from SoCal all the way up to Fairbanks, AK and as far south as Guadalajara, Mexico, before moving across with it to Florida.

Before I got away from VW’s this is what we used driving around Australia for the big circuit.  Broke down everywhere, Great fun and it stopped where ever it wanted and you camped until fixed and then moved on.


Sold my last one, the Single Cab Ute late  last year. I had had enough of the break downs by then.

You don't have your T1 single cab Volkswagen anymore...?
I did not realize that.
But you did a thorough nut-and-bolt restoration on yours;
so,  it shouldn't break down anymore, or?  ???

Those weren't supposed to be so unreliable in the old days either... ::)

Gary, I wonder why. I don't remember you having a lead-foot.  ;)
My engine blew after about 90K miles when we drove up the Cajon Pass . That was the end of a planned ski vacation at Mammoth Mountain. After the engine rebuilt - no further breakdowns until I traded it in with 237K miles.

Alfred, i think it had to do with the number of miles 200-400 travelled in a day and the 100f+ temperatures. 


The valves really needed adjusting all the time and the air cooled motor hated the hot weather.  I installed an oil cooler that helped a bit but i continued to have lots of problems that after a few years i just gave up and built a new VW T6 camper in 2016.


Note it’s MB 334 light blue top half.....same as my Pagoda.

I admire all you guys who are into "camping". Last time I camped was in 1974. Italy. Lignano Sabbiadoro at the Adriatics. We were down there with friends and had a fall-out. They had taken our tent on the roof rack of their BMW 2002. We drove my 914-6. In order to get home, I sold the tent right there at the campground. Never camped again and never regretted not doing so. Even a cheap hotel room with a bathroom and a shower beats any camping comfort. 8)
