fuel injector stop solenoid
« on: April 12, 2020, 14:01:34 »
Hi everyone have a question about the stop solenoid. My injection pump is a R28, the only solenoid is the stop solenoid. My car wouldn't run.So I took it off.I applied 12 volts and the plunger moved out about an 1/8 of an inch.I do not know if that is enough.I also don't know if that was keeping car from running as I am doing a few other things while I have the time.I looked on the web and cannot find one(with the same part number). On the only ones I do see the rod is a lot shorter. My question is does this solenoid look okay is the rod in its deenergized state supposed to be this far out.I have read that the car can run without this so I made a plate and will try.Part number on solenoid is 0 330 101 016

Those are hard to find and I think only used in the US for emissions. It looks correct from what I remember. It stops the fuel at the pump during deacceleration to prevent the burbling noise which is un-burnt fuel igniting in the exhaust.

You can install the solenoid and just disconnect the wire and it should not activate anymore. If you engine runs just fine, then the electrics are telling the solenoid to activate when it shouldn’t.

I have one but mine only moves about an 1/8” as well.  That must be the extent of the intended range.  Mine isn’t corroded and Is in great condition so I don’t think that is your problem.

I don't think lack of movement is the problem either. The solenoid shouldn't move at all unless your foot is off the accelerator pedal while coasting AND the engine is above 1200 RPM or something like that. If the solenoid activates at any other time, it will effect your engine. That would be the electronics at fault. Again, if you just disconnect the lead wire to the solenoid, it will not activate and cut the fuel off. If that resolves your issue, then look at the switches and electronics in front of that.
