Wanted: Window top interior trim
« on: April 27, 2020, 17:05:00 »
Wanted: Window top interior trim (right side), good condition, black MB-Tex (see photo)
For the life of me, I cannot find the part number on this, which would greatly help my search on eBay, etc. I only found the vertical side piece part numbers.
Thanks
Gary

Have you considered repairing the holes and recovering the damage part ?  For perfect left/right match you might have to do both.

Yes, I'm absolutely ready to repair. But I want to see if there are any good remnants out there, which would probably end up looking better, but cost is a factor. And your comment of needing to buy both sides to match is appreciated.

I've thought about injecting (over-filling) the hole with rigid foam spray (rigid foam exists under the MB-Tex), then carving/shaping to match left side, then patching in a small piece of MB-Tex along with using 3M Leather and Vinyl Repair Kit. Recovering the whole piece is scary - trying to negotiate all the curves with a whole new piece of vinyl, but it might come to that.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks
Gary

I would suggest buying the MB Tex from a vendor like GAT.  You probably only need half a yard.  ~$25.

Patch up the holes and recover.

When people switch to an leather interior I believe they just cover the MB Tex with leather.  Maybe somebody can comment that has done the job.

I think I even read here on the forum that leather interiors from the factory were actually installed over the MB Tex.

I recovered my dash with MB tex from GAT.  I just went over the original damaged MB Tex.  It was snug fit but worked fine.

Gary, in the parts books and EPC these two top pieces are unlisted callouts, so they're not shown in any picture diagrams.  You have to look at the parts list below the listed chrome trim pieces.  The part numbers are as follows:

Top left padded piece: 113-680-07-81
Top right padded Piece: 113-680-08-81
