Another addition!

My newest addition.....

1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE, dark red with cognac leather, 57K miles.  Fun daily driver and great addition to the collection.

I see you list the interior color as Cognac, however, it looks to be, I think what was called Palamino.  I had that interior in my 1972 300SEL 4.5 that I should never have sold (for $3K).  Gorgeous interior in that leather.  The Palamino does not have the speckling that Cognac does.  Are your seats different than the doors?  Looks like a really nice car and they drive great.

Hi John,

It is definitely cognac leather, data card code 250.  And is has the speckling that you note is common with the cognac leather.  The condition of the interior is fantastic. The seats and doors are the same.  Must be the lighting in the pictures.

I did look for a 280SE or SEL in both 3.5 and 4.5.  Never could quite find the one I wanted or was willing to pay for! 

The funny thing is my 1969 280SL is 903H blue with the parchment interior.  I always thought that car would look great with the ivory steering wheel but it had the black.  The 280SE had the ivory wheel.  I just switched the wheels on the cars and they both look better.  The SL really pops with the ivory and the SE is more sedate with the black.

Man, I love these big, classic sedans. One of these days, when I do not need a daily, performing and reliable driver anymore, I am going to get me one of these and put it in the garage next to the SL

John, Palomino wasn't introduced until the early 1980's.  For the late W108/W109 cars the only colors available that resemble Palomino were Cognac, Bamboo, and Light Beige. 


Dave, congratulations on your W108.  I've been very fortunate over my almost 30 years of driving in that I've always had a W108 or a W109 as a daily driver.....and I still do!  I wore a few of them out, but they served me well.
