Cylinder fail and Rattle
« on: June 02, 2020, 18:53:51 »
Dear Team SL113,
I please need some advice.
My Sl280 1969 US model is having an issue.
After a good 60 mins upto 120 mins of running in over 25 degrees outdoor temp (80 degrees) and then sitting in traffic for at lest 20 minutes one of the cylinders starts not firing properly. After a while a rattle starts under the hood and slowly gets louder.  Now if I let the car cool down and the re-start everything is running perfectly on all cylinders again.
So it only happens when the engine is hot.
Have opened up the top of the engine and all looks fine.
One suggestion has been it might be a valve that sticks (carbon build up) when hot and stops one cylinder from working and the rattle is the piston hitting the top.
Any other similar issues anyone has had?
Or any ideas what else could be wrong please?
Thank you so much
Best
