Cooling System Gaskets

Am currently replacing all my cooling hoses, thermostat, and water pump. I bought new gaskets for the thermostat housing and water pump, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or advice for using a light coat of high temp gasket sealant when putting it all together? Is using gaskets alone enough? Any pros or cons on this subject? Thanks,

Not necessary on rubber o rings and hoses. You can actually get a "hose grease" which can help make things seal and will keep down corrosion of the aluminum parts under the hose. Gasket sealer on new paper gaskets is not needed but may help since old parting surfaces are no longer perfect. Old parts get nicked, and warped from use and age. A little sealer may be good insurance on paper gaskets. Use it sparingly since excess can  go to places where it can do harm.

This "hose grease" - is it a specific type of grease exactly for this application? Or certain type of grease you use for this purpose?

I suspect it is a lubricant which will not degrade rubber hoses etc. (most likely a silicone base grease)
