Water Pump Maintenance?
« on: June 06, 2020, 20:57:37 »
Currently re-doing cooling system, replacing water pump and was wondering if any of the pulleys , as well as the water pump need any lubrication, grease etc.? I saw in a MB parts catalog that the 3 hole water pumps came in maintenance and maintenance-free versions, while the (4) hole, including mine had only one option. I'm guessing that the later (4) hole ones were maintenance-free going forward. But, while I have the belts off and radiator removed, I would better check with you guys if there is any particular lubrication recommended. Thanks. Mark.

The "maintenance style" water pumps have two removable screw plugs. The one on the top is so you can add 90w oil. The one on the side is the fill level. If your water pump does not have the plugs it is maintenance free.
