Need hood/bonnet for 70 280sl

Need hood/bonnet for 70 280sl. Yesterday I took my body to the body & paint shop, the owner said that i would need a new hood due to the fact that the hood that came with the car had been damaged and that there was an attempt to repair it with bondo but who ever did this could not get the wave out of the sheet metal.

There's one for sale in Annapolis - turns up on Craigslist occasionally but I don't see it at the moment. Not sure I would buy it sight unseen and I'm sure you know that these were hand trimmed at the factory to fit individual vehicles so fitment could very well be an issue.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. My car is at the body shop and they don't know if the hood can be straightened since it is warped.

Just perhaps good to know in case you find it - to determine price reasonability. This bonnet is available from MB dealers (or Classic Center, whatever more convenient) at the price of ca $6500 (you would need to check in the US). PN A 113 880 00 56 for 113044.

I had one fly off of a parts car I had and get damaged enough to be unusable. I took it to my body man and he split the hood into two pieces and he fixed all of the problem areas. He used panel bonding and a spot welder to put the top and bottom half back together.  He turned a junk part back into a perfect hood so it can be done but only by a very skilled expert.

That's what the shop in Cabot Arkansas said. I think he is planning to do that, if it's too damaged then he might be willing to give it a go. Thanks
