Based on the 183 cars currently listed in this group's Car Registry Database, I offer the following:

Quantity By Model

230's      62
250's      17
280's     104

Quantity By Year

1963        5
1964       19
1965       16
1966       14
1967       28
1968       27
1969       33
1970       16
1971       25

And just why did I take the time to do this?

 The in-laws are here.

Interesting stats, Ed. It's a good reminder to people who participate in these forums to enter their info in our database. It's our hope to record the history of as many of our cars as possible to preserve as much of our history as we can.

It's funny to note that the largest single year of production for the W 113 was 1969 and, as luck would have it, that's the year with the largest representation in our database.

Gentlemen,

I'm sure there are many delinquents like me who have not gotten around to this; I will add one more 68.  Also with my car came someone else's original datenblatt, and I've been meaning to post that in case it belongs to an existing (Tobacco) car.  Not very likely, but... I'll get to both when I arrive back in Sarasota mid-April. If it's Friday, this must be France...

On March 24, 2005 ... over 11 years ago Ed had his in laws visiting and he had some time on his hands so he made a count of our Car Registry

I came across Ed's post by accident today and since I have some time on my hands today I thought ... "how interesting let us see how it changed over 11 years"

Yes you guessed it I made a count ... here are the results (not as detailed as Ed's, since I don't have that much time on my hands) :)

Still it will show you how much our International Pagoda SL Group has grown over the past 11 years.

230 SL

1963 ...............  15
1964 ...............  58
1965 ...............  59
1966 ...............  60
1967 ...............  23
_______________
Total 230SL = 215

250 SL

1967 ...............  67
1968 ...............  18
_______________
Total 250SL =  85

280 SL

1968 ...............  64
1969 ...............  96
1970 ...............  95
1971 ...............  63
_______________
Total 280SL = 318

Now I do realize that some of the cars listed in our Car Registry are no longer around (the car may have been sold, the member left or for whatever other reason), still I think it is quite interesting how our site has grown over the years.

When I registered my car in the "Car Registry in 2013" I sorted the data base by VIN number and found out that one of our members car rolled off the assembly line 3 cars behind mine. I since meet the member several times since then and our cars meet after all those years again at our last PUB get-together.

Have you registered your car in the Car Registry if not why not do it, you never know what interesting facts you find out once you sort the data base.

*** Edit Anyone can add your car see ====> (link removed for security)

So in total there 618 Pagoda's in our Car Registry (plus 2 incomplete entries that I have not included).

My free time is up (my wife's temp caregiver is leaving) so I shall leave it at this.

BTW, Ed posted last in 2010 and left an interesting link (shows some of todays EURO car prices including a few Pagoda's)

Here ---> http://www.auto-salon-singen.de/en/vehicle/search

*** Edit REMOVED link to registry above - removed only Full Members can register i miss read that earlier

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that only full members can enter the car registry. I think we might be missing out on a lot more data base, and frankly, I don't see it as much of an incentive to become a full member. The club mag and tech manual - yeah I can see that, but not this one. :)

Dan,

I think anyone can have their car put on the register, it has to be done manually through notifying Admin the details of your car and Peter then adds it to the list.  I think this was done so that non Full Members (who do not provide all their details) and do not have WIKI access rights cannot manipulate/corrupt the Database.

Hi Dan,

My bad, I don't know where I read it or miss-read it. However Garry is right anyone can register there car when e-mailing all required data to the "Registra" as listed under the link ...

Here ----> http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Registry/Start

I corrected my post above. Looks like I have to get my eyes checked again ... :)

Sorry to see you disapprove hauser I thought it was interesting and informative to compare the numbers and see how many more fine folks have rescued a Pagoda put it back on the street and joined our fine comunety :)

Besides, a recount here and then is good and it points the way to some members that are not aware of our Car Registry

I believe that you've taken the correct approach from the stand point of protecting the site. However, I see no problem with removing that from the WIKI so that anyone with a car could easily register what they have. I have dead cars or the old VIN tags from them and I would think that even ones that are no longer here could be shown as wrecked or scrapped which adds more depth to our data base.

Thanks Dan, I try to help out whenever I can it gives me a mental break from being a full time caregiver.

The link I provided will help new members find information like I did when I first registered my car. I first meet Mike in 2013 during a Concours de Elegance car show, then again at his home when my daughter Kim gave a presentation at the nearby University in 2014 and again last year at PUB. The car registry (when I sorted it in 2013 after I meet Mike) revealed that his and my car are only 3 VIN numbers apart. How cool is that. Last year at PUB both Mike's car and mine had a reunion after rolling off the assembly line 47 yeas prior.

That is what the Car Registry and Members database is all about, sort and find information as the link I gave earlier (to the Registry) explains in detail. I recommend anyone that reads this to read the carefully prepared instructions (in the link I gave above in an earlier post) that are given above the database it will help them to find information such as Members near there location, cars near there location having the same characteristics etc. perhaps even use it to contact members in there area or State to let them know about a car show or organize a get together.

Having spend my working life in the engineering field and even worked with Dbase then compiled a bunch of databases I developed with the Clipper compiler for a maintenance database for one of my former customers  .... I recognize a good tool when I see it.

And believe me

The Car Registry & our Members database are great tools. All our Members need to know it is there and what it can do for them.

Dieter

Edit, I added Mike's and my car as they meet again at PUB last year 3 VIN numbers apart how cool is that.

I just realised all details in the registry are visible to the general public. Has it been discussed to make it accessible to full members only? I'm a bit spooked having my real name in there, which I wouldn't be if it was behind the full membership "wall". A simple Internet database search reveals where I live..

Hello Mike,

I logged out then tried to find the Registry using our on site search function. The result was I had to log in. Try it and see.

I also removed my link that I provided earlier.

However, you raised an interesting question. I hope Peter can awnser your question, or someone that was active during the development of the database.

I actually tried to access the site using another browser in private mode, and not logged in. It seems to be accessible in the "technical manual" section, near the bottom of the page.

Hi hauser,

It's all good. My intention was to show how our site has grown over the 11 years (comparing the count of cars with the number we have now).

As I mentioned the count may not be accurate, then on the other hand some members active now may not know that we have a Car Registry. It took almost 1/2 year before I found out that we have one. I cannot see how I did any harm by making a count and posting it above.

I can only hope that 11 or so years from now someone else will count the cars again and the number will be over 1,000 :)

Be safe and happy motoring always,

Dieter

I'm off for a few days, and this happens. It's ok to resurrect and old topic, when it is topical.

The registry is open and accessible -- its what was decided over 12 years ago. However, modification is done through a mail to registrar@sl113.org which does not get handled by me, but by member 280SL71.  The reason for this is that it is hellishly hard to update that Wiki table without screwing it up, and that we discovered that in order for the data to be useful, it would have to be entered in a consistent manner. That's why we have a "registrar" of the "registry". Send 280SL71 a thank you PM for his efforts, or send him your details to be included.

At the time, most of us were not concerned about our details being out in the open. If, for security purposes, you'd like your name replaced with your forum handle send the registrar a request with both your name and forum handle.

Then again, I have been campaigning for some time to members to use their real name here on this forum. After all we are a real club, of real people. I've never had any negative effect from this...

Peter
1970 280SL. System Admin of the site. Please do not mail or PM me questions on Pagoda's... I'm not likely to know the answer.  Please post on the forum instead!
