Eberspaecher Versus Gillet Muffler

Has anyone noticed that the Gillet muffler (genuine MB) is more of a throaty  (deeper) sound than the original Eberspaecher?  Not that it sounds badly, but it is definitely more pronounced than before.  I kept the header pipes, but replaced every part behind it with genuine MB.  The only exception is the center muffler, which I purchased OEM Eberspaecher from Pelican Parts, as it was quite a bit lower in cost.  I%u2019m wondering if I should have done the same with the rear muffler too!  LOL

I would have thought each and all parts of the muffler system were tuned to each other and as a whole so changing a centre muffler to a different brand may be the cause for the change.

I did  a similar   purchase  to you, couple of years ago when my Pagoda  came from CA, i purchased a  rear mufler
also from Pelican parts, was put in the trunk,but it was a Ansa,and im very happy with it,a little throaty as well.

Recently bought a completely new MB exhaust system. It was difficult to get all part as Gillet cease to exist and no MB replacement there yet.

The exhaust system was extremely expensive AND the sound is totally miserable.
Too loud and too low. After 15 minutes you are fed up of this!
If this is the original sound of Pagode in the “60 they would not have sold a single car.

To discuss this issue, I took contact with Mercedes Benz Classic Car Components in Stuttgart.
To could not give an answer due to Corona.

I do have the exhaust system from MB except the front pipe that is still not available.

I, actually, like that low sound... a question of preferences...

It is certainly not the original sound, it’s what they think we like today.

Well....interesting responses!   I%u2019m beginning to think the front muffler, behind Eberspaecher, may actually tone it down a bit (versus having both be Gillet).  I drove the car again yesterday and actually enjoyed the sound...but I wouldn%u2019t want it louder.   I replaced the exhaust system on my 3.5 Cabriolet ten years ago (all genuine MB) and it is quieter.

But it%u2019s disappointing not to get the original sound!!
