First road trip - what a positive experience!
« on: September 07, 2020, 13:03:36 »
Having recently joined the ranks (https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=529.msg228281#msg228281), wife decided we should take a short road trip in the new car.
We went to classic (in my mind) territory for a nice, classy car like Pagoda, Newport and Westerly Rhode Island.

Car worked out perfectly and the weather was as perfect as can be. This truly is a fantastic car to not only look at, but to drive and enjoy.
And the number of people that give you thumbs up or nice comments range from old Corvette guys to Porsche drivers to construction workers to soccer moms. Amazing, there is just no bad feelings generated by this car.

PS. Maybe I should I say ride instead of drive... I have driven the car twice since she got it as a 50th Bday present....

Great pictures and a beautiful area.  These cars are great for afternoon or all day drives.

We had a perfect day ourselves last Friday.  Beautiful day, not too hot, partly cloudy.  My wife and I took a drive to Turkey Point and had lunch overlooking the marshes that are part of the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve.  Stopped by a craft brewery after lunch and had a nice drive home.  250km round trip.  Like you, a fantastic day.

Can fully confirm this after completing the "Thüringen tour" last weeend
and returning after a 7-hours drive/ride with the SL yesterday afternoon/evening.

Very Nice.  I remember my first road trip in the pagoda, not that long ago.  Love Newport RI.

Great front license plate - took a minute for the penny to drop but then got a chuckle.

My old stomping grounds! wonderful place for a Pagoda drive.

I attended Naval Officer Candidate School there many years ago and later spent a couple of years across the bay at the old Davisville Construction Battalion Center near North Kingston.

If you took other pagoda pictures in Rhode Island, please post.

Thats great news, after your purchase.
Cars can do many things to there owners, and infact  can change there life in many
instances, like it did for myself, not with a Mercedes, but another make, years ago when i moved
to California and stayed, and did not return to New Zealand for 10 years.----thats a big long story.---.
Your Pagoda looks wonderful , and i hope you and  your wife have many more wonderful journeys like this first one.

It is a beautiful area of the country, that's for sure!
Happy it rejuvenated some good memories for you.  Don;t have that many more from Newport sadly. Good excuse for another drive!

Thank you on the well wishes.

I also think the front plate is fantastic !
+1 on the color too.
"enjoy the ride" .... I guess you already did that.  ;D
Since the whole family wanted to go for a ride (4 of us, minus dog  :(  ), we took the Camaro top down for a nice ride.
Since it was a US Holiday here, the Camaro was more fitting.
Take care,
Mark

Thank you on the plate thumbs-up! And on the color call out as well - it's a really nice one. Never thought we'd own a "green" car.....

So - wait - you live in IL and have three convertibles? That's what I call positive outlook on life!   ;D

Great photos!

My sister-in-law has a pagoda in Rhode Island, and this time of the year is perfect for driving, especially around Newport and Jamestown.

If you haven’t seen Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with the Pagoda (Alec Baldwin) he sums up our cars perfectly.  He becomes the voice of the Pagoda and speaking to other sports cars of the era he says I see what you are up to and it’s great but I am not sleeping on a Futon on the floor.
