New OEM Fuel Tank Damage
« on: September 07, 2020, 15:01:48 »
Hello Members,

I joined recently but long time 230 SL owner and posted some info on the appropriate page. I received my new OEM fuel tank on Saturday from Bud’s Benz but due to totally inappropriate packaging it was damaged. It appears as though the seam is intact but I am apprehensive about installing it. I would appreciate any comments regarding using this tank. Please see the attached photo.

Hello JJ,

Welcome to the Group.

The visible damage on one of the seamed edges doesn't appear to me to be highly endangered concerning the tightness of the new tank.
If you are still concerned, get in touch with David Latham from Bud's and get the tank replaced
- or maybe he offers a partial refund ...

Good luck!

Hallo Achim,

sehr vielen Dank für Ihre/deine Antwort. Ich habe den Behälterzustand auch so beurteilt. Ich werde morgen Bilder an Bud‘s Benz schicken und um ein Gespräch mit David Lathem bitten.

MfG

Hello John,
I agree; send a picture of the damage to David Latham and give him a call. Since the seam is still intact I’d go ahead and tap out the bent corner and install the tank. It’s a shame that such an expensive item would be packaged so poorly.
Have patience installing that tank - it’s no picnic.

You paid good money for the tank.  I would get a replacement.  They have insurance to cover things like this.  Let Bud's deal with it.

Charles and Jordan,

Thanks for your comments.  I would like to think the tank will be fine but at the same time this should never have happened. You should see my pictures of the unopened box and packaging materials that were used.  It is a joke!  Jordan, I expected much, much more given the cost for the OEM tank.  To top it off, the ordered fuel hoses were not sent, so I couldn’t have installed the tank if there was not any damage and all this after waiting one month to receive the tank.

I’ll provide an update.

Best regards,

John

Hello Achim, Charles and Jordan,

As an update, I wanted to inform you that I received a replacement fuel tank from Bud’s Benz.  I am very grateful to David Latham for his very important role in the replacement process.  I would also like to thank Vicki Coker.  I will definitely continue to support Bud’s Benz in the future.
