Hello Pagoda Friends,  Can someone recommend a shop to rebuild my '70 280SL rear axel in the So Cal area of Orange County/ LA County or San Diego County.  I was referenced previously to a local ship to me, near Escondido that I prefer to suppress my experiences with...,when he said he would help me out, perhaps he is just too busy.  So I need to find another shop that would like to rebuild my axel.  Thank you so much for any advice and recommendations.

I have removed the axel (and cleaned) from the body, and it sits on a furniture dolly ready for a shop for me to take it to. It needs an axel boot (bellows), pinion seal and compensating spring rubber seats, rear carrier seals... etc.  Car has 175k miles on it.

Thank you, Cheers and God Bless,
JohnnyC

An option is Onager Corp. in Chula Vista City, 619-421-3254 Bob Gunthorp and crew also have a lot of experience with the older Benz models.

I've been to Bob's place once. Lots of interesting cars around there.

Thanks for the recommendations Gent's...., but have you seen the satellite view of that place?  789 Energy Way, Chula Vista.  Ahhh, don't judge a book by it's cover.  I'll take a drive there and see what the shop looks like first.

Not in Orange County but try Scott Melnick at Automotive Engineering in Calabasas. 818-222-1800

Thank you Dakman29, much appreciated.  Not too far out of the way..., I'll give them a call.

Not so much a recommendation of anyone's work, as I haven't tried any of them yet, but as a new owner these places have been recommended to me:

Marx Mercedes (though I've been warned he can get expensive)

Laguna Auto Service (my car is currently being serviced this week, was recommended to me, cool little shop and location)

Coastline Imports (great reviews on Yelp, and lots of pagoda photos posted in the last 2 years)
