CW or CCW

Good morning all.  I have my points set to a 34-38º dwell angle and I am trying to fine tune the timing.  Right now I have a slight bit of pinking, but the car is running well otherwise.  Looking down from the top of the distributor, do I rotate CW or CCW from this point to stop this?  The reason I ask is due to the difficulty of removing the battery for access to the pinch screw.  Can't quite get to it with the car at operating temperatures without scalding my forearm with the battery still in place.  Thanks,  Ed Fisher Dallas, Texas

CW to retard.

You may want to turn the collar around. See:

Thanks Naj.  Does the collar simply rotate, or must the distributor be removed to facilitate movement?  Ed

Ed,

To do what the engineer has done (see picture with his post), you'll have to remove distributor to 'flip over' the locking collar. [:(!]
