W111 (&W113 230SL) Febi Flex Disc
« on: October 22, 2020, 21:42:44 »
Hi all,

I removed my flex disc (original Mercedes it seems) as I am having my prop shaft overhauled. I had bought a Febi replacement and to my surprise it was quite different when I removed it from the box.

The original mercedes part was as described in the Tech Manual / forum posts with a uniquely identifiable face to be fitted to the transmission side. Correct fitting assures the links are in tension rather than compression apparently.

The Febi one looks absolutely symetrical with no identfiable sides. Has anybody fitted one of these? Febi part number 14930.

Regards

That's the new replacement. No indexing required. You're good to go.

Peter,
I bought and fitted the same (Febi) . As Benz Dr. already said, it can go either way. There is an article about it somewhere around but I don't remember where.

Gents,

Thanks for your advice. I thought I was going to end up with yet another incorrect new part gathering dust on the shelf.

The new flex discs are more robust also and should last longer.

Is the Febi Flex Disc the equivalent to the Mercedes Disc. Does it last as long or longer than the MB one? I think I saw where SGF makes both of them?

Joe,

I ordered the MB one from the Classic center. I paid $58 which was cheaper than the Febi one. Here is the picture of the MB Disc. It appears to look the same as the Febi. It shows that SGF made it and has the MB logo and part number. Based on your experience is there a difference between the MB vs Febi?

Thanks!

That's the new version TJ. It's much better than the originals and you cannot go wrong with the MB brand.  The new improved version is also less expensive and that must be a first!

I would like to point out that at MB PN  A 108 410 01 15 is the repair kit and it comes with seal rings and bolts.

Pawel,

I checked on that kit with the Classic Center here in USA and it is NLA and you have to order all parts of the kit separately. May be different where you are.

I hate that with MB. When you need a kit, they make you buy a lot of separate parts. When you only want one part, they insist that you buy the complete assembly. >:(

It is a kit here, ca $80. Parts list doe snot even have the PN for flex disc.

Well it is trading up on one hand, on the other hand I think I read an opinion here it was a good idea to use the new bolts and seals... I do not appreciate some of the ridiculous pricing from them even though I fully understand need for margin...
