Boot/trunk depth?
« on: December 05, 2020, 11:37:34 »
Hi folks
Odd question I know, but here goes

Currently ‘Bessy’ is still in the workshop, which is over 100 miles away (I know our American cousins think that is no distance but here in Blighty it is!).

Hubby wants to know what I want for Crimbo, and I found a rather wonderful looking retro cool box. The trouble is, I want to be able to place in Bessy’s boot/trunk but as I have no Bessy, I’m a little stuck. I’ve looked at the various pieces of paperwork and documents I have but to no avail.

I attach a picture of the item which shows the dimensions. If anyone happens to be out with their pagoda, could you take your tape measure and see if this will fit. Ideally I wish to place it to the side of the boot/trunk rather than again the rear bulkhead.

Many thanks again for everyone’s help

I am dubious if it will fit vertically, Katie, the boot is quite shallow, and the hinges and boot lid frame may contact the box.

We keep a Fridge on the back seat behind the driver.

It is easily accessible then during long trips

Keep well

This one would probably fit: https://www.koolatron.com/US/en/coca-cola-retro-thermoelectric-6-can-cooler

I spent 10 years in Coke, I am very happy you looked at Coke fridge for your car.  :)

The logo is such a classic! I’ve seen this one, which indeed is the first one I found. But time I’ve imported it from the states, it all adds up, plus if anything wrong, I’d have the price of resending back and new postage. Not to mention the joy of custom charges!  I don’t know why the UK Koolatron site only has the big version, whilst the US site only the smaller one, weird!  Maybe they think the limees drink a lot more? 🤣

Here are heights inside the trunk.  You've got 12 inches under the lip (I have a cocomat on the floor) and it looks to be about 13" in the centre portion of the trunk if you want to stay no higher than the spare.

So, looks like hubby will have to use his imagination for my Crimbo present, oh dear!! 🤣

I spent more than 10 years at Pepsi and in blind tests, most people preferred Pepsi coolers😂

Do you really want to start it now?

It has been proven that Coke logo on an establishment increased the establishment's positive perception amongst consumers.

Pepsi won in most blind taste tests because you put more sugar into it.

I took the Coke/Pepsi challenge many many moons ago ago and I picked Coke. I have always found Pepsi to be sweeter than Coke and I could usually taste it.  I like the cooler that Merc_Girl was looking at as I have a vintage Coke fridge in my garage/shop.  Mind you it is stocked with beer but who's going to complain.  Not me.

Now now children, let’s not fight over which is better

Suffice to say, I just prefer the single colour and the font used by Coca Cola (plus their bottles of coke are great but increasingly difficult to purchase now a days! 😔)

So Pawel66, can you answer the question everyone has, which is, why does bottled coke taste better than when in the can? 😉

That is why you need two coolers.  One behind the seat for the constabulary to peruse and one in the trunk with the real refreshments.   ;D ;D

OK, just to take this to the extreme of being off topic (yes, I remember, we did start with trunk/boot measurements), in Southern California, the hipster Coke is Coca Cola made in Mexico. 8)
Why? They use cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup.
Why do they use cane sugar instead the corn syrup? In 1997, Mexico passed a tariff on high-fructose corn syrup to prop up the sugar industry because of the competition posed by corn syrup.

I have yet to try it, but it is supposedly "better"

Who would have guessed that a simple question would end up being a history lesson!

That’s what I love about this group, we’re all happy to digress from a subjects to increase the general knowledge of our members 😁

I’m now going to look to see if the bottles are indeed made in Mexico, just out of curiosity 🙃

So Pawel66, can you answer the question everyone has, which is, why does bottled coke taste better than when in the can? 😉

I think you are referring to the "contour" bottle, usually the glass one - I think this contour bottle is part of the experience, which, even though it is a simple soda, is, actually, multi-sensual and the shape plays a big role here.

I spent some time yesterday looking for a car fridge for you in the UK, but, to be honest, I have not found a lot. There were some on amazon, but "not available".

I will check if there is anyone I know now in the organization there in the UK and see if they have anything, but it is a long shot...

I will keep looking for a nice Coke car fridge that will fit in the trunk available in the UK.

Staying in the UK - my next 10 years of career was with Cadbury's.

By the way (we side tracked you topic, but I think the required information was provided) - are looking only for the fridge or ice chest is also an option?

If it is a fridge - do you have a 12V supply to the trunk solution idea? Also bearing in mind that 12V to 220V converters are easily available and not expensive (I saw some counter top fridges on the web).

Here is another example, but not in the UK: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33001396024.html

I also thought if you search in German language (Coke per capita consumption in Germany is very high), you may enter a whole new area, e.g.:

amazon.de is also a different story (here is also some ice chests - very nice):

It isn't about the chest.  It's about the style of the chest.  Driving a W113, parking and picnicking out of your vintage Coca Cola cooler says you are a person who believes in fun, optimism and better times ahead.  Doing the same thing and pulling out a Yeti cooler means you are a wanker who never thought through that you would never be 3 days from a block of ice.

GM:  Mexican coke is better.  Still very sweet but a little more crisp on the flavor and the post drink feeling like you need to brush your teeth is greatly reduced.

Hiya

Thanks for all your hard work.!

So, I wanted a top loading one so that I could just lift the top up to grab a drink, rather than trying to rummage around in the boot and move things around. Glad you kept to the CocaCola theme, though some were somewhat larger than the one I was trying to shoe horn into the boot!

Yes, I have had a 12v supp,y put into the boot 😉😁

Yes, it would be read the same way here as well, fully understand!

Likely reason for taste difference may be a different type of sugar, but I am not sure...

That is one that would fit in terms of dimensions, I guess, but not a top loader: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Coca-Cola-Mini-Kuhlschrank-Kuhlbox-und-auch-Warmhaltefunktion-Vintage-Retro/224257539236?hash=item3436ca7ca4:g:ICgAAOSwGJxfs2zu

Front opening unfortunately

But thanks for still looking 😁
